I'm "Lido" and my picture can be seen below. This old photo was taken in
late 1970s in Romania [the country where I had been born] in the town
named Drobeta-Turnu Severin by the Danube river. Note in the black and
white photo a nice WW1 artillery piece. --- I'm interested in WW1 and
WW2 military history. I collect some militaria items, mostly bayonets
[Italian, Spanish and British] and when it's the case I like to reapair
them. I also like to take very close pictures to some interesting
bayonet markings and headstamps. I live in USA which is a great country
with nice people. I speak Romanian, French and English. I'm married with
a nice and sweet American wife who speaks no foreign languages. I would
NOT trade her for anything in the world.

HI, my name is Matt and I am from Roanoke Virginia USA. I love Italian military history and this site is a great place to learn about it. My Dad is from New Jersey and my Mom is from Pennsylvania. My Dad is all Italian and my Mom is half Italian and half Irish. I have traced back that I have family from Polermo and Potenza. Some of my hobbies are fishing, hunting, I am a student pilot, building scale models, playing paintball, and playing WWII computer games. I try to convince my history teacher that the Italians weren't cowards but he dosen't listen.

Hi,I'm Jeff Ren from Shanghai.I've just celebrated my 38th birthday a few weeks ago.I'm an architect, quite busy now as the economic is booming.I'm married and have a six-year-old son. From my early high school years,I have been interested in Italy-related items.I saw Italian uniforms for very first time in an old Albanian movie about communist guerrilla. Thus sparked off my love for Itallian millitary. In China, people tend to think Italians were cowards and prefered surrendering to fighting though they admire Roman legionaries. It's quite ridiculous. The main reason is the lack of unbiased information in Chinese. All we could read are English or American historians' books, for example the Time-Life Third Reich series. The only Italian one is Bragatin's Mediterranean naval war and was translated from English!
I'm myself a moderator of a Chinese WWII forum where I've introduced some Italian weapons and some brave Italians. My main interests are WWII aircrafts,as well as Itallian millitary history.I've been visiting this wonderful forum for quite a long time and learned a lot.My spare time hobbies include reading novels(Milan Kundera is one of my favorite) and drawing sketchs. Here's one of them. :)

Well here goes I have been here long enough at least 4 forums I think :?: Anyway I'm Eddy, yes that fun loving patriotic died in the wool Canadian guy. Who doubles as a displaced Furlan when the mood strikes me.

I'm 41, love history and all that goes with it...collecting, reading etc..... I'm married with three kids under 2 years of age  Love planes antique furniture refinishing & collecting along with of course various types of militaria including medals & bayonts and headware. Like the lighter side of life ( who would have thought eh?) along with reading & writing.

Growing up there was no Italian war for me. It was the Americans and Germans slugging it out (hollywood). One day the thought occured to me. WHat about the storys I was told by my father? parenti and freinds and so on.... I became determined to discover Italy's role in the war and along with that the performance and role of her troops. Hence my original reason de'etre here.

There you have it in a tiny nutshell....

One of the twins (Marlena) and me. (Yes I picked her name after the singer :) )

...you have a beautiful child Eddy. Mine are the great joy in my life.

My name is Arditi. I live in Texas, USA with my lovely wife and two joys...my daughters. I grew up in the military. My dad was in the navy for 35 years and I got to see a lot of the world as a result. I served in the Marines for 5 years as an M60A1 tanker. When I got out I went to college for too many years and became a social worker for 8 years. I am now a licensed counselor/therapist and have a private practice that I have enjoyed for the last 5 years. I work primarily with children with various behavioral/familial issues.
I have a strong interest in military history and collect militaria of the foot soldiers from various countries. Italian military history and food is my favorite topic and interest. Along with the uniforms and personal items of soldiers I also collect weapons which I shoot and reload for.
The below picture is a celebration of having finished building the wall and pond, at my home, you see in the photo. We built it last summer so we are only now able to truly enjoy it with the summer here. Back breaking work! I am slightly tipsy and with my lovely daughters.

Oppppssss I discovered I got not a not-ridiculous pic of myself so you have to wait for my face...

Told this...ok, I'm Lupo Solitario and logically it's not my name, the real one is Luca but I sign as Lupo from my childhood (when videogames had only four letters to sign the scores... ).
I'm 37, single, no kids. I've had a strange career, actually I'm a museum curator and enjoy it a lot. I don't know where my passion for WWII comes from: I learned to read on a copy of The Purcell History of WWII I found at home and so on. My other passions are all the other branches of history, modern science, travelling as much as possible, trekking, kitchen and a good glass of wine

Me

Postby jwsleser » Fri Jun 17, 2005 3:36 am

Let me jump into the fray….

I am a retired army officer (armor) that served in many places around the world. I currently work at the US Army’s Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. I am 50, married, with three adults (they have all moved out……YES! :-).

My areas of interest include the Italian Army in WWII, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Ottoman Army in WWI. I do design work for the Der Weltkrieg series of WWI games (my Caucasus game should be release this winter), and I currently publish (abet slowly) a journal on the RJW.

I started reenacting in 1996 (military moves made it too difficult before then), but have been collecting Italian militaria since 91. My collection is focused at reenacting, not collecting in general. I currently have impressions for the French & Indian War (French regular), WWII American (mortarman), and of course Italian (which is my main interest). I have a fairly large library, including many WWII Italian military manuals. My Italian impressions currently are Alpini and A.S. Bersaglieri. I am working on improving these and the addition of a basic fanteria to the mix. My favorite event is public displays where I can display my collection and educate the public on Italy’s participation in the war.

I have attached another picture of myself in my Alpini impression. I looked for a 'civilian ' picture, but none would scale down right and look good. I will need to work with Photoshop a little more. That and neither my wife or I are big camera bugs. Too often we are enjoying the sights and forget we have a camera.

I seem to have just stummbled upon this topic and part of the site altogether. A bit about myself, my name is John, 16 and I reside in the Land of Lincoln. Originally I wanted to reenact Italian, but was unable to find a unit or a reliable outfit producer. So I turned to the German Heer and that's where I am. I reenact in the 25th Panzer Grenadier Division out of Indiana. I am still hoping to get an Italian impression together sometime soon, but I'm willing to wait.

And I came upon this site when I was looking for Italian tanks during WWII. Thanks to this site and its information I was able to find three 1/35th scale models of the M13/40.

No picture at present, just imagine some hoodlum behind the screen. :D

Introducing...

Postby Nick West » Mon Sep 05, 2005 6:21 am

Nick West - a new London-based forum member interested in history generally as well as military history, art, wargaming, hill walking and rock climbing and cooking - Italian food in particular. I'm 41, single but dating a Scottish girl :D who lives in Edinburgh :?

You will see my initial plea for help in the Wargames forum, as I am representing Italy in a strategic level geoppolitical/military megagame on the whole of WW2 from start 1942 to the conclusion and need some source material to pre-study. My brother is also military minded and is a member of the WW2 Living History Association in the UK, the British Military Parachutist Association and various gun clubs, should anyone need any UK info or help in those areas.

I have no particular connection with Italy other than having dated a couple of Italian girls in England and developing a strong liking for the country, it's people and the food. Have some basic Italian, having stayed in Rome for a couple of months back in 2002 and explored the Alpi Apuane, Dolomites, the Gran Sasso d'Italia and Parco Nationale de Abruzzi. Off to the Sorrento Peninsula next weekend for two weeks!

Introductions

Postby Figlio di un Alpino » Wed Jan 04, 2006 4:30 pm

My name is Tony and I live in California. My parents were both Italian and I was born in Italy but move to the US very early on. I am fortunate to speak Italian and read some. My father was in the Alpini and fought in Greece. He was very proud of his service as I am in his service. I have been to Italy many times and find that I have the best of two worlds, the USA and Italy that I can call home.
My interests are history, I mostly a US Civil war student. But growing up I was always interested in Italian history especially Italian Military history. The lack of real good books on Italian Military history is very frustrating and this is why I joined this forum.
I am very impressed with the amount of knowledge on this forum.

Newbie

Postby Django » Thu Feb 02, 2006 10:56 pm

Hello I am a newbie to this site having just found it doing a google search.
I am a Canadian with Swedish/Scottish background but have always been interested in Italy's war effort during WW2.
I started modelling the M13/40 and Semovente way back in the 70's and have always been intriqued in Italian Soldiers and equipment.
I have bought a few rare books over the years and always hard a hard time finding out info until I stumbled unto this great site!
I am amazed at all the info and pictures and have been glued to the site for days until registering today.
I am am also very interested in Rumanian and Hungarian WWII military history and equipment and Japanese tanks in WWII, maybe because there has just been so little written about these areas but they are all very interesting to me.
Thank you very much for this great site and allowing me to be a part of it.

Django

p.s.........I am also into Spaghetti westerns hence the name Django

hmmmm.....maybe I was Italian in another life.....love the food and also have some great Italian/Canadian friends one of whom has a grandfather who was in North Africa and saw combat but won't discuss it with his family........too many harsh memories from what he told me.

About me

Postby Brummbar » Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:25 pm

I'm an Australian who has a Spanish father and German great-grandparents. Nevertheless, I consider myself Australian above all else.

I've been interested in World War II since I was a child. At first, I was more into German and Allied airplanes, but as I grew up I moved towards tanks. I am a keen (if mediocre) scale-modeller with a collection of Eastern Front and North African campaign tanks. I also have several tanks from the Arab-Israeli Wars. My other interests are basketball and politics.

I found this site whilst doing some research on an M13/40 model kit I was working on.
