Documenting the Italian political and military actions of World War Two

In comparison with the FNAB-43, the TZ-45 is much more the sort of weapon one would expect in that place and at that time. It was cheaply made from metal stampings, welded together in parts, and the finish is rudimentary.

This little known weapon was designed and developed in Italy during the war and manufactured during 1943-44. It is believed that no more than 7,000 were built and all were issued to the German and Italian units fighting in Northern Italy.

An unusual feature of the OVP that was not on the original VP gun was the use of a cylindrical sleeve surrounding the receiver for cocking the weapon. This was grasped and pulled to the rear to retract the bolt and then pushed forward during firing.
