Italy’s war aims and expected length of conflict

Turbulent98 The trick question comment was an attempt at humor (hence the smiley face). It wasn't a serious statement. :) Not even the Italians knew what their war aims were or how long it would take to accomplish them. With all the planning comments stating that Italy would be ready to wage...

    Italian naval propaganda

The date of this card is important. As I read it, it was drawn in early 1942 to be read by the Italian public. It is telling them that the Axis submarines have already reduced the Allied shipping to 30 million tons in Jan 42. If the rate of sinkings continue, the Allies will be defeated when the...

    184º reparto corazzato

Thank you. I have checked all my sources and there isn't any authoritative information on the model of tanks used. Everything I have states M14/41 or M15/42. While certainly possible, that sounds more like a modern rationalization given the lack of information. Using old tanks creates problems...

    Malta miniatures game

I found a video of this game as played by the team from Little Wars TV. I certainly have some issues with the video itself. The operation was named Operazioni «C3», not Unternehmen Herkules. Herkules was only the German component of the invasion. Even the German documents call the overall...

    184º reparto corazzato

Grazie! I would be surprised if the tanks were actually M13/40s. Likely not many remaining. In 1943, the new tank was the M15/42 so the use of M14/41 could be considered old tanks. But that is a swag.

    Supermarina's Cryptographic Service

Bry The topic is whether the Italian Navy's cryptologic service provided any targetable information. Your post doesn't establish that link. It is mere speculation on your part. If Operation Boatswain had been compromised, it could have been due to multiple other intelligence efforts beside the...

Italy’s war aims and expected length of conflict

This is a trick question.... ;) There are many documents that clearly state that Italy wasn't planning for war until 1942/43. Even with this understanding, Mussolini hadn't articulated any goals for war at that time. Most people look to his statement made in his 10 June 1940 declaration of war...

    Battle of Leros 1943

This is a video made by a Greek reenactment group on Leros. I am posting it here mainly as it clearly shows the nature of the terrain of the island. Not an easy place to fight a battle. Pista! Jeff

    Desert Armour

Yes, a strength of the books. They are very enjoyable reads. The writing is engaging and moves the narrative right along. I haven't yet been able to sit down and read it. Between doing research and writing on the Beda Fomm book and still struggling to finish Steel Centurions, Desert Amour 2...

The Naval war in the Mediterranean 1940-1943 Greene Massignani

The Raspin book will need to be either interlibrary loan or visit a library and copy it. It was published in 1986 by Garland Publishers, but that company focused on academic works and the print run was likely small to meet whatever PhD requirement existed at the time (back in the years of yore...

    C.A.I. use of Flugplatz Coxide

Duh, the mention of Coastal Blitz is in the page you uploaded. I didn't find any book by Julian Foynes by that name or date, but there is Battle of the East Coast (1939-1945) published in 1994 by Foynes.

    C.A.I. use of Flugplatz Coxide

Bob Are you sure about the book Coastal Blitz? I have found that book by David Rowland, but the only publication date is 2000 and 2001. Worldcat doesn't list any book with that title as published in 1992. Pista! Jeff
