Just one thing to add which missed off. The Ascari and other native troops in Italian employment equal coverage to the Italian colonial troops. There deployment and use are covered right up to when desertions start taking place and these are included. Bob
Good afternoon all.
I have now finally read this book which I must say enjoyed very much. I have read Marek Sobski’s book East Africa but would say that Riccio’s and Afiero’s edges it on content.
The book gives an account of the Italian occupation of East Africa from the very beginning in 1869...
Sid,
I am currently reading the below book which has been written by Italians and available in English. Believe it or not, the chapter is on the Battle of Keren!
I will do a review when I have finished it.
Regards,
Bob
Afternoon.
I have finally read Damned Hunchbacks which I enjoyed. As previously stated, the book is written in the authors same style which is easily read. It is chronically in order so starts off with the development of the torpedo bomber aspect, the formation and then the operational use. The...
Sid,
I have looked Ciano’s diaries for the relevant time period and he makes no mention of the bombing of Turin which surprises me as he mentions the French bombardment of Genova a few days later. I have a Time Life book on Italy at war which mentions that 30 civilians were killed in a bombing...
Phil,
I would add:
1) Toes up by Paolo Monelli. One of the few books in English re an Alpini in WW1.
2) Alemein - An Italian Story by Paolo Caccia Dominioni. He was an officer in the Folgore and is loosely a memoir.
Refards,
Bob
Hi Greg.
I have now revisited my books re your question. Unfortunately, it gets more complicated! I attach two photos relating to the names of the vessels you have quoted. I am not sure if this going to help your research. In respect of the Germans getting names wrong all I can say is that In...
Dili,
I am not sure if you are still interested but yesterday I took delivery of a new book on the Macchi fighters. The below photograph which is in it. Whilst the blue fasces emblem is missing, I think I can just make out the RA emblem on the wing. I posted a thread yesterday re the book...
Good afternoon all!
Seems like ages since I put on a posting. I took delivery today of the book shown below. I have only had a quick flick through but feel that it is a must for anyone with an interest in the Regia Aeronautica.
The book is big and full of info, pictures and colour drawings. It...
Chris,
Sorry for the delay in replying to your question.
The below is taken from Ospreys 53rd Stormo. He is mentioned book but only in his commander role. No clue to the number of victories.
I hope it helps your research.
Regards,
Bob
Oldwargamer,
Welcome to the forum. I totally agree with you in that it is not an easy read. It is why i, like you, took so long to read it.
Regards,
Bob
Turbulent98,
Very interesting. One can’t help think what else lies in the desert waiting to be found. The SM79 wreckage even in its state would make a good memorial!

Hello lala1 and welcome to the forum.
I am very much afraid that you will be disappointed. Very few Italian WW2 tanks survived the war. Those that did are in museums with a very small number in private collections. The only replica Italian tank that I know of is a single WW1 Fiat tank which was...
