sviluppato in Officina a Tripoli ad uso locale. Alcuni pezzi sono sopravvissuti ed hanno operato nel 1940 in A.S.su chassis diversi ? Spa 25 C 10 ?
What unit would have this in 1940? PAI? GAF?

Dili Posted 11 July 2010 - 11:47 PM

Legend says 2 Fiat Tripoli "strutures" mounted over SPA 25C chassis captured by British forces in first phase of African campaign 1940.

Attached File I was unable to find

As an aside to the original question, which I too would like to see answered, does anyone know if a scale model (preferably 1/72) exists for this vehicle?

found this http://www.ilprincip...ndo%20Terni.htm

I couldn't recover link

Thanks for the link.

What was the scale?

Can you help me navigate that site? I have no Italian, and I can only find figures & not vehicles/guns.

Thanks,

David.

Me too i tried to find more cars and couldn't so the problem is not your Italian knowledge.
I just could found it via google http://www.ilprincip...o.it/prod05.htm

I think the best way is to try to contact them via email.

Btw it seems they were with Babini Brigade when destroyed. the original unit i don't know. There was a squadron autoblindo savari, unclear if it was still operational, do you have any information on this?
Also PAI i am not sure if they were in AB40(some went exprimentally to Africa) or if they arrived after war start.

it seems to be 1/72 http://www.quattroga...fiat15terni.htm

So, more information i have found:http://miles.forumcommunity.net/?t=31314501&st;=90

"Nel 1940 le autoblinde Terni furono rimontate su chassis di SPA 38 e armate con mitragliere 13,2 aeronautiche per rimediare alla mancanza di carri armati, ma furono catturate dagli inghilesi..."

Fiat "Tripoli" (i see them called Terni ) remounted in SPA 38 (a difference from photo which says SPA 25 ) and armed with 13.2mm from aircraft which everyone knows from italian airplanes doesn't exist. Only Navy had 13.2mm.

Not related with this model but curious another member says that Graziani in is book tells that 2 or 3 lancia IZM were found in depots when they tried to found a vehicle to respond to British Rolls Royce harassment but they were unable to be repaired.

This Russian site(Google translation) http://62.149.27.202...d.php?p=1219997

Armored Car Fiat-Terni or Autoblindata Terni (also called Fiat-Libia, Fiat tipo Tripoli or Fiat tipo Libia) was developed late in 1918 by Societa Terni and manufactured at a factory in Terni in privintsii Umbria.
It was a simple but reliable armored vehicle stationed on the chassis of the truck Fiat 15 Ter. Fiat-Terni was small: 4,54 m vdlinu, 1.7 m and 3.07 m vshirinu vvysotu. At least one of the armored cars, probably as an experiment, the tower was equipped with armored cars from Austin.

Fiat-Terni has been specifically designed for action in the Italian colonies in Africa. In 1919, 12 armored cars were sent to Libya, along with many Lanzia IZM, which formed two car vsmeste broneeskadrona - 4 ° and 5 ° Cacciatori. Later Fiat-Terni used in battles to capture the oases Giarabub and Cufra. Also, these armored cars were used to escort convoys of supplies, have shown themselves well as reconnaissance armored vehicles, as well as machines to communicate with air reconnaissance.

In 1940, 10 armored cars Fiat-Terni were still in Libya. Approximately 6-8 modernized armored cars putting chassis SPA 38R and armed with only a machine gun 12,7 Safat HMG, located in an open top turret. These armored cars were part of the Brigata Corazzata Speciale.
So the aircraft weapon is a Breda 12.7 MG from airplanes. Note that the kit seems to be the initial model not the II WW modification.
