Carcano m91/38 Fucile corto

Recently a purchased a Carcano m91/38 Fucile Corto from a local gun store, Terni dated 1940. One thing that confused me is the lack of serial numbers on the stock or the bolt, however there is a serial number on the reciever. I am making this post because I am curious as to why serial numbers may be absent in these locations. I have attached some pictures including ones of some markings on the rifle. This is my first post on the forum so if this is the wrong place for this discussion, I apologize and can move it or remove it. Thanks for reading.

Buongiorno Jawoj_71

Welcome to the forum.

RE: serial numbers. Bolt were serial numbered only in the early years of Carcano production (basically ended during WW1). Given that all parts were interchangeable, the idea of serial numbered components really doesn't mean anything. The Carcano was one of the first rifles that didn't have matching marks for parts. This did vary by manufacture.

The stock was normally serial numbered to the rifle. I am wondering whether the stock has been refinished or it is a replacement stock.

The Roman numerals next to the year (XVIII) is the year using the fascist calendar. The marks on the bolt are unusual. I haven't been able to determine what it is, but I think it is a badly struck Crown of Savoy which was on some bolts.

Pista! Jeff

Nice S.R.. Looks like the receiver is import marked. If it is a import the stock most likely refinished. Rich A. in Pa.
