Hummm....

Not sure what you mean by chart compiler.

Gyrocompasses read true north.

As they used knots, I assume navigation was by nautical miles (NM), although gun ranges/distances between objects were measured in meters.

Just my thoughts.

By chart compiler I mean the organisation that drew the chart such as the UK Hydrographic Office which compiles UK Admiralty charts. I doubt that the RM were using British charts during the wartime but who knows.
