This thread documents the organization of the Italian alpini. The intent is document any changes during the war by date. Please comment/correct.

It is normal for each battaglione alpine to have one batteria alpina attached during operations.

Three battaglioni alpini

The number of battaglioni alpini can vary, but is normally three. It is normal for a battaglione artiglieria alpina to be attached to each regiment. The number of batteries in the battaglione usually matches the number of battalions.

The main source is the Handbook on the Italian Military Forces Military Intelligence Service 1943 p. 67. This was modified based on information in others sources as needed.

I have since obtained a copy of Brief Notes on the Italian Army GHQ, MEF 1942. I haven't match the info on the Alpini units in that source to what I have already posted.
