What an interesting pair of documents. I did some spot checking using my sets of Italian army lineage books and it all matched up. In the 1938 document, you can see the start of the transition of the army from the divisione ternaria to the divisione binaria.

I have dabbled a little in that Russia archive, but I haven't quite figured out how to find what I am looking for.

The 1936 Order of Battle is at the end of the this report. The order of battle of the forces in Abyssinia precedes it.
