Strange vessel Venchione

Hello,

According to some German KTBs they managed to seize in Greece after the Armistice an Italian vessel Venchione. It was renamed to GP 05 or GP 04. I was not able to figure out any vessel with similar name. I wonder whether it could be Regina Vincitrice later V 198 and AS 83. According to Navi Mercantili Perdute it was lost on the 20.4.45 close to Trieste. The displacement of Regina Vincitrice was 170 tons but in one source I found 270 tons what would be in line with German sources. The name Vincitrice is similar to Venchione and it would be not the first time when Germans made a typing mistake in case of Italian names. I hope there will be somebody on this forum to confirm my theory or clear it up in other way.

Best regards,

Greg

Hi Greg,
Welcome to the forum. I have two books dedicated to the Auxiliary vessels of the Regia Marina. Unfortunately, they do not have an index. I have had a look through and attach the page relating to the Vincitrice. Most of it fits apart from the location depending on your definition of close to Trieste. If I come across anything else I will let you know.
Regards,
Bob
