This is an OOB ot the axis forces for march 1943 in Tunisia.

I know that it has many errors and it is not possible to give a full an exact oob since many units were formed into kampfgruppen and were detached from its parents units.

Please any comment and addition will be most welcome.

(edit because of silly mistake...)

Hello!
Excelent work.

I´m at work and don´t have my sources with me, but i believe the Ramcke Parachute Brigade was sometimes called 2. Luftwaffe Jaeger Brigade or something like that?
From Allied sources (not always correct...) i think it was organized in 2 battalions.
Also with 2 bats was Kampfgruppe Menton (former S.V.288, then panzergren reg Afrika)

In 1942 there was a II/5 FsR with Ramcke in Alamein, i´m not sure if it was disbanded/merged with others or maybe later joined its parent regiment 5. FsR (Koch); anyone with concrete info?

I believe i have some info about the marsch bats at home, i´ll see what i can dig up.
As far as the italians go, your OOB is the best i have :)

regards,

Hi Nuno,

regarding Ramcke Brigade, I do not which was its composition in Tunisia. I know that general ramcke and some hundreds managed to scape encirclement.
Ramcke went back to Germany. but I do not if some reinforcements came to the brigade or it just remained with the survivors of El Alamein

Tessin says that in August '42, it was referred to as "Brigade Ramcke," and that as of 2/2/43 as "Luftwaffen Jaeger Brigade 1." "Destroyed in Afrika in May, 1943 by capitulation."

Hello everyone, could i have more detailed TO&E about Giovani Fascisti at company level at the moment of starting moves of Op Pugilist? Around is almost impossibile find somethings about but all generic informations.
Thanks:

Hi
The Young Fascist Regiment did not have a TOE but since it was a single unit, it also came from a similar pattern to the AS 42 of the Royal Army, even though it was not of "regular" extraction. I could give you some of the formations in the field that the regiment took during its operational life .... let me know if that's what you wanted ...
All the best

Ok thanks but there aren't any "gliderung" like tables of the forces on the Mareth line at the opening moves of operation pugilist and in the days after(15-25 of march). I know the whole division had only about 5000 men and the GGFF regiment had only 250 units every battallions. But i would like to see day by day ready force with how many smg, lmg at guns and so on...I know that is a UTOPIA but some one know that data.
Thanks for every effort

Unfortunately there is not much on the GGFF division and even less on the GGFF regiment. On the composition of the regiment at the time of the beginning of the battle of Mareth there are two theses. The first is based on reports of the 1st Army dating back to 8 March 1943 which see the GGFF regiment consisting of two AS42 battalion battalions and a counter tanker battalion on 3 companies. The second one in stark contrast is instead based on data derived from the little correspondence left and from maps of the battle itself. The only thing clear in fact is that the regiment was initially structured on 2 AS 42 infantry battalions to which a third GGFF counter-tank battalion had been added in mid-October (with 22 officers, 23 non-commissioned officers and 614 GGFF volunteers with 24 47/32 pieces, a car for the commander, 37 Fiat 665 trucks and 25 motorcycles. This third battalion is the unresolved problem. For some it was merged with the first two to replace the losses during the arrival in Tunisia and therefore the regiment he had only two AS42 battalions at the time of the start of the battle (this would coincide with the maps of the time that see only two battalions lined up on the Mareth line), but for others instead it would have remained in place by giving only part of the armament and soldiers to make up for the losses of the other two, in accordance with the official Messe report that sees GGFF with all three battalions in place at the time of the battle of Mareth It is also true that over the years I have found documents dating back to February 43 that see the division on just two AS 42 battalions at the height of the force unlikely if the division had been on all three battalions. However, in a general and general line the regiment had this theoretical composition:
- Young Fascists settlement on:
--- Command (100 men)
--- 1.o and 2.o Young Fascist Battalion each on:
---- Command (68 men)
---- 3 companies each consisting of 141 men and divided into:
----- Company command
----- Platoon riflemen (6 light machine guns)
----- Machine gunner platoon (3 heavy machine guns)
----- Lightweight anti-tank platoon (3 Soluthurn anti-tank rifles)
----- Heavy antitank platoon (3 47/32 mm anti-tank guns)
--- 3.o Tank anti-tank battalion (out of three companies each on 8 pieces)
All the best
Maurizio

Thanks for every words of reply, but i know that is a mission impossible. Sad to see that in speaking english world there are a lot of people that underrate the italian role in the battles in Tunisia this bias in due mainly idea that on Mareth line were only afrika korps and "terribles" panzers.
keep this forum active.
