My father went from Calabria into Italian Army in 1936 just after he was married. He used to say he was in the King's Army but not which regiment or anything other than he served in North Africa and was captured in 1942 and ended up in the UK via South Africa and India. He died in 1936. Somehow, his surname got changed from Barbiero to Barberio but I do not know when or where.
