Identifying a cannon

Hello Folks,

I am new to this forum. I had no idea a great resource on WW2 Italy existed like this website. Could you help me identify the cannon that my grandfather is standing in front of? The photo is from 1937 in Eritrea, possibly somewhere in Ethiopia. I know that my grandmother and my mother lives in Asmara while my grandfather was away. Thank you for your help. My first guess was a 75mm Cannone da 75/46 C.A. modello 34.

Agreed, nice photo! Below are three pages which cover this gun from the Green Series of books which includes one on Italian artillery. You may be interested to see that your nonno stands by one of sixteen that were sent to Ethiopia.

Bob

Wow, that is great stuff, 1089maul. Thank you for highlighting those pages. I have a cache of WW2 documents, photos, and blue prints (my Nonno was a naval & civil engineer) during their time in Africa. It's an important part of my family's history and certainly my childhood growing up with the stories told. Thanks again.

Nico,
You are welcome. If you look at the forum you will see a section on the men and women in world war 2. You will see the previous posts. It would be great if you did a small biography on your nonno and include some photographs??
Personally speaking, I do enjoy reading such personal articles.
Regards,
Bob
