The Announcement of the Italian Armistice and Surrender

MALCOLM TUDOR

New Member
In a surprise radio message on the evening of the 8th of September 1943, Marshal Pietro Badoglio, head of the Military Government which had replaced Mussolini, announced the Armistice and Surrender of the Italian Forces to General Dwight D Eisenhower, Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces. The agreement had been signed in secret five days earlier in an olive grove in Sicily. The announcement changed the entire course of the war in Italy. It was swiftly followed by the beginnings of the German occupation and the return of Fascism, the flight of the Royal Family and Government to the south, Allied landings, special operations, and the mass breakout of prisoners of war. You can read the whole story in the books by Anglo-Italian writer Malcolm Edward Tudor, which are available in Kindle worldwide and in paperback or hardcover from www.amazon.co.uk or www.emiliapublishing.com
