"How much is worth Buche e Croci nel deserto"

At least a few times, I was directed to Giuseppe Rizzo's "Buche e Croci cel Deserto. Apoteosi della Divisione CR "Ariete" as for monography of the Division "Ariete". Recently I have found a copy for 120 Euro. Is it worth the money, considering that the book was published in 1969? What are your...

201.a and 202.a bersaglieri motorcicle coys

Great find, Maurizio I would go for the 202nd at Derna. That is what tells me the Allegato for Diario Storico Militare del Giorno 6/1/41 (USSME N-2/390) of Comando Superiore FF.AA. AS That is where Schizzo 17 Prima Offensiva Britannica takes its data. Regards Slavomir

    Battle of Mechilli-Derna January 1941

Maurizio, I agree that the Battle for Derna lasted longer than just on 25 JAN. And yes, I have read the whole WD. And I found that the OOB presented by Annex A to Op Inst No 7 from 25 JAN (which I inserted just as an example), was valid until 30 JAN when 2/8 Fld Coy returned under the control of...

WW2 Italian Field Artillery Regiment Organization

Don't have the files listed, but in my notes, I marked Roll 36 as "seen", but no copies. Apparently, nothing interesting, for me at least. Maybe something from 1942 - 1943? Cannot recall... Regards Slawomir

WW2 Italian Field Artillery Regiment Organization

You are right, that how this portion was called: Unfortunately, I don't have the full roll. I was going one by one through those that looked interesting to me. The other doc from that roll that I was going through are: Formazioni ed Organici di Guerra for CCNN from April 1940.

WW2 Italian Field Artillery Regiment Organization

Maurizio, Unless the file were put there by mistake by someone in Ufficio Ordinamento e Mobilitazione, I would argue that it is AS40 as I have taken it from May 1940 document:

WW2 Italian Field Artillery Regiment Organization

Maurizio and Jeff, The files come from NARA (T-821, Roll 35). It covers different types of units designed for service in the A.S., including artillery. Yes, you are right. Here is the summary for the artillery regiment:

WW2 Italian Field Artillery Regiment Organization

Just doing a quick check in my AS files, I can tell that according to "Formozioni Provissorie di Guerra di alcune unita metropolitane per l'A.S." issued May 1940 it is three batteries in gruppo. Regards

Italian repaving of Via Balbia highway between Sollom and Sidi Baranni?

No date was given. I believe the road was not considered finished as only half distance was covered with asphalt.

Italian repaving of Via Balbia highway between Sollom and Sidi Baranni?

According to T. Vendramme and A. Bondesan (Ruote nel deserto. Teatri operativi, mobilita e logistica del RE in AS) the road between Sollum and Sidi Barrani was ready and was called Via della Vittoria. Out of 80 km of the road 40 km was already covered with asphalt.

Additional platoons in Ariete at El Alamein

I also reviewed my resources, and I believe the most relevant for El Alamein would be "Formazioni Provvisorie di Guerra dei Comandi, Reparti e Servizi in A.S. Fascicolo D - Truppe Corazzate" dated June 1942. It still says that Batalions M were organized in three companies, of three platoons...

Italian leaders in the Western Desert - Ariete, Brescia, Trento?

I don't think so. He was wounded twice at El Mechili, the second time in the head. His colonna was still in the OOB during the assaults on Tobruk, but I don't believe he could recover so quickly. Regards
