Additional Notes

Generale d’armata Mario Berti received the Distinguished Service Order personally from Winston Churchill for his services during WWI. Berti was initially promoted to Generale di corpo d’armta in September 1937, but the promotion was rescinded by Mussolini when he heard that Berti was unmarried with the motivation: “What kind of general is it that does not care about the raw material of war?“.
